As an artist, your goal is to have an identifying style but to continue to innovate. It is challenging to push yourself beyond a creative comfort zone in the search for this extra element. In this series, I was asked to respond to an attributed Jackson Pollock painting that will be exhibited with these works in the exhibition: The Evolution of Painting, at the Exchange Art Gallery. I wanted to keep my aesthetic of color harmony and the overlapping of shapes from previous digital creations while incorporating a new technique: bold black strokes. Although Pollock was primarily known for his drip paintings, I was inspired by a phase that focused on black strokes on raw canvas. These black paintings combine abstraction and figuration. In Bold harmony, the lines dance with each other, mixing the more traditional looking layers with the digital customized brushes. How far can digital go to look like a physical painting and how to move beyond that?
